Rick Hanson's Biography
Rick Hanson, Ph.D. is a neuropsychologist, author, and teacher at the intersection of psychology, neurology, and contemplative practice and author of Buddha's Brain: The Practical Neuroscience of Happiness, Love, and Wisdom. Please see www.rickhanson.net for his background, writings, and teaching schedule, and to sign up for his free e-newsletter, Just One Thing, which suggests a simple practice each week that will bring you more joy, more fulfilling relationships, and more peace of mind and heart.
A summa cum laude graduate of UCLA, Rick did management consulting before earning his Ph.D. from the Wright Institute. An experienced neuropsychologist who works with adults, couples, and children, he has written and taught extensively on personal well-being, family relationships, and integrating mindfulness with everyday life, including for Therapy Networker, Tricycle Magazine, Inquiring Mind, and the Insight Journal.
He co-founded the Wellspring Institute for Neuroscience and Contemplative Wisdom and edits the Wise Brain Bulletin (see http://wisebrain.org). He is first author of Mother Nurture (Penguin, 2002), and an authority on how the arrival of children affects mothers, fathers, and marriages.
His latest book (with Rick Mendius, M.D., Foreword by Daniel Siegel, M.D., and Preface by Jack Kornfield, Ph.D.) is Buddha's Brain: The Practical Neuroscience of Happiness, Love, and Wisdom. A related 3 CD audio program, Meditations to Change Your Brain, was recorded with Dr. Mendius and Sounds True.
Former President of the Board of FamilyWorks, a family resource center, Rick sat on the Board of Spirit Rock Meditation Center for nine years, and he is currently a Trustee of Saybrook University. He teaches graduate courses at Sonoma State University, and leads numerous continuing education workshops for psychotherapists. He is considered a lively and humorous speaker with an unusual ability to translate scientific findings into immediately useful tools.
Rick began meditating in 1974 and has trained in several traditions. He teaches at Buddhist centers in America and Europe, including Spirit Rock Meditation Center, the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies, and London Insight, and he leads a weekly meditation group in San Rafael, California.
He and his wife live in the San Francisco Bay Area, and they have a young adult daughter and son. He enjoys rock climbing, sailing novels, travel and having fun with friends and family.

Attitude of Gratitude

We hope you are finding plenty of useful information on these pages that has real value in your life. Information that helps you to achieve a larger number of your hopes, dreams, desires, wishes, and goals.
There is so much more valuable information "in the pipeline" headed your way. Money makes all worthwhile projects possible. Lack of money stops anything good from happening. If you would be kind enough to "show your attitude of gratitude" for what you are finding on these pages by making a (you-choose-the-amount) donation, we will be forever grateful.
One of the primary projects we need funding for is the production of a (FREE) 70-minute CD (or) (FREE) mp3 download for every high school and college age student in America. CD content that teaches the "real world basics" of how-to's: a healthy mind and body; time management skills; relationships skills; and money management skills. Essentially, we'd like to teach young people how to think better, make better decisions and take the kinds of actions that lead to a productive and rewarding future.
Your kindness and donation will help to turn this "wonderful idea into a serious reality" for every student in America!
Thank You.
